Time, World and God.

by Guruguhan Iyer

“When will I get to see you again?”

He asked his father.

No answer.

“When will I get to see him again?”

He asked Him.

No answer.

Time, World and God.

All three stood still.

But they were the only ones

Who could get him somewhat close to his father.

Whose soul, by then, was zillions of miles away.

“When will I get to see you again?”

He asked him.

No answer.

“When will I get to see him again?”

He asked Him.

No answer.

He tried to hold his tears back.

He was fighting a lost battle.

Not just with them,

But also with Time, World and God.

But it was them.

Time, World and God that healed him.

He had moved on with his life.

He lived happily.

With his mother, wife and kids.

Occasionally missing his father.

But he never failed to remember him.

Or talk to him.

One day, he went to drop his son at the school.

The little one turned back and waved his hand.

He waved back with a smile on his face.

And saw his father from his son’s eyes

Sitting in his car at the driver’s seat.

He put his hand across to his heart

“I may have to take your place now.”

He said, as tears rolled down his cheeks.

“But I can never be you.”
